About This Program
The Youth Parliament program provides a platform for young people to engage in governance and decision-making processes. Recognizing that many youth in Uganda lack opportunities to participate in civic discussions, +256 Youth Platform created an inclusive space where all young people, regardless of academic qualifications or political affiliations, can express their views. The platform operates informally, allowing youth to discuss and propose solutions to key issues affecting their communities. Through this initiative, young leaders have been nurtured, with some transitioning into leadership roles in local governance and civil society organizations.
The objective of this program is to enhance youth participation in governance by equipping them with knowledge and confidence to influence policies that affect them. Successes of the program include influencing local policies through youth-led resolutions, training hundreds of young leaders in public speaking and advocacy, and providing a space where young people engage with policymakers. The program has also led to partnerships with local government authorities, amplifying the voices of youth in community development initiatives.
