About This Program
Sexual and reproductive health remains a critical issue for young people in Uganda, where access to information and services is limited. Through its SRHR program, +256 Youth Platform educates youth on safe reproductive health practices, sexual rights, and the prevention of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. The program operates from the Sexual Reproductive Health Corner at the Youth Centre and uses peer education models such as the “Let’s Chat” discussions and the Teenage Mother Garage initiative to support and rehabilitate young mothers. Additionally, the program runs a sanitary pad making and distribution project to improve menstrual health management for vulnerable girls.
The program aims to reduce the prevalence of teenage pregnancies and increase access to reproductive health information among young people. Key successes include reaching thousands of young people through awareness campaigns, rehabilitating teenage mothers by providing them with skills for economic empowerment, and improving menstrual hygiene through locally made sanitary pads. The program has also strengthened partnerships with local health facilities, ensuring that youth-friendly services are available.
